3 Ways Mobile is Integrating into the Workforce

Mobile’s impact on the workforce is escalating. The how, when and where work gets done is no longer confined to corporate or home offices. Mobile technology has taken us from the rigid 9-5 of yesterday, to the flexible anytime, anywhere workforce of today.

To remain competitive companies must embrace and support this new, rapidly evolving work environment.

  1. Rise of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
    According to two recent studies by Brandon Hall Group and IDC, 62% of workers use their personal smart phone for work, and 65% of workers declared their mobile device to be their “most critical work device.” These numbers are expected to rise. BYOD simplifies the life of an employee. Rather than carry multiple devices, employees are able to use the device they want in both their personal and professional lives.

    While BYOD transfers the cost of technology infrastructure from IT to the employee, it is important to note that the availably of sensitive company information on personal devices is something IT departments must address. As more and more employees use their personal devices and tables for work access, IT must implement safety procedures in the event the device is lost.

  2. Shift in Enterprise Business Technology
    Over the last decade, we have seen a clear shift in the way business technology is not only used but created. From accounting to sales to recruiting to training, the rise of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and Cloud platforms is now the primary delivery model for organizations of all size.

    This cloud-based model influences mobile’s impact on the workforce. It is now expected that providers develop both web-based and mobile solutions. Mobile applications allow people to quickly and easily achieve the task at hand. Given BYOD and the varying devices within organizations, mobile applications must work consistently across any device. This is something your IT department must keep in mind when building out mobile applications.

  3. Building a Flexible Workforce
    Employees are no longer chained to their desk. Organizations worldwide rely on frontline employees who are away from the corporate or main office. These employees depend on mobile access and technologies to stay connected and get their jobs done. The number of organizations that have remote workers is expected to reach 1.2 billion by end of 2014.

    Providing employees with flexible, mobile access to learning and information increases productivity and engagement. Yes, organizations will have challenges and barriers to overcome when it comes to their mobile deployments, but the benefits of anytime, anywhere access to real time information far out way the risks.
